Summary
A new technologically superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the United States coast under the command of Captain Ramius. The American government is trying to find Captain Ramius, but so are the Russian naval and air commands. Government experts think it is planning to attack- that is, all the experts but one. He thinks the sub's commander is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find the sub and prove his theory
