- Detective Jackson Brodie takes on the case of a girl who disappeared thirty years ago, helps a crime novelist who becomes involved in a road rage incident, investigates the mystery of a novelist's holiday in Russia, and looks for another missing girl. He used to be a soldier in the British army and then an officer in the Lothian and Border Police. Now the tough detective has turned private investigator, compelled to bring peace to victims and their families
